From My Desk to Your Mailbox
Newfoundland has never been just a place to me.
It’s the way stories are told. The way people gather.
The way memories stay with you long after you’ve left.
I’ve always felt a quiet responsibility to keep that feeling close - not just for myself, but for others who carry it with them too.
I've spent years promoting Newfoundland businesses and celebrating the people who make our province what it is,
finding joy in helping others reconnect with something that still feels like home.
The Story Behind Tales from The Rock
There was a season when travel stopped and visits home simply weren’t possible for anyone.
The distance felt heavier than usual, and it felt so much further away.
I could feel it in myself - and in others.
Wanting to bring a small piece of Newfoundland closer, I partnered with a craftsperson in St. John’s to create handmade Christmas ornaments. What started as a simple idea quickly became something far more meaningful - to you and me!
It wasn’t about the hundreads of ornaments that we sold. It was about the messages that I received, and the stories you told me.
People wrote about parents they couldn’t visit. Traditions they missed. The ache of being away during a time that had always meant coming home.
Those conversations led to the creation of the Newfie Connection community on Facebook. It became a place where stories were shared freely, where memories resurfaced, and where Newfoundland and Labrador didn’t feel quite so far away.
Through those exchanges, one truth became clear.
People weren’t just missing a place. They were missing the feeling of it.
Tales from The Rock was created to carry that feeling forward.
Then in 2024, I lost four aunts and uncles within six months. With each goodbye, I was reminded how quickly stories disappear when they aren’t written down. I didn’t want that to happen to the people and places that shaped us into who we are today.
From my desk to your mailbox, each letter continues that quiet work -helping memories resurface and bringing a small piece of Newfoundland back to those who still hold it close.
