The Story Behind the Letters

For Those Who Never Really Left...
There’s something that happens when you leave Newfoundland and Labrador.
You carry it with you.
In the way you speak.
In the stories you remember.
In the small moments that bring it all back.
But over time, those stories become harder to hold.
Tales from The Rock was created to bring them back
- one letter at a time.
If you’ve ever felt that pull, you’re not alone.

Why I started
writing things down
I’ve always believed that stories are how we stay connected - to places, to people, and to the parts of ourselves shaped by them.
Over the years, I’ve seen how easily those everyday stories can fade when they aren’t shared. The small memories. The familiar voices. The moments that once felt ordinary.
Tales from The Rock grew from a simple desire to keep those stories alive - and to offer something steady for those who can’t always be where their heart still rests.

“When ye fall in love with a place through story,
you’ll want to see it for yourself.” ~ Elias

The Voice Behind the Letters...
Elias was inspired by the storytellers many of us grew up with - the ones who could make you feel like you were there, just by the way they told it.
He carries the voice of memory, experience, and Newfoundland storytelling tradition.
Through him, each letter becomes more than a story. It becomes something familiar.
P.S. Both of my grandfathers were named Elias, and giving their name to the one who signs these letters was my quiet way of keeping a seat for them at the table… and letting their stories carry on.
