Newfoundland and Labrador Jobs: Where to Find Work in 2025

If you’ve been scrolling through NL job posting groups lately, chances are you’ve seen your fair share of frustration. Some folks are venting about the job market, others are taking aim at newcomers, and some are just plain fed up.

Here's the thing - these newcomers are often filling jobs that others are not interested in.  It’s true!  It's important to understand our job market and knowing how to position yourself is key to landing that dream job.

As someone who’s been teaching business and career education for over 25 years, I can tell you - there’s always opportunity for those willing to learn, adapt, and show up ready. We're here to help you find work in 2025!

So, pour yourself a cup of tea (or coffee, no judgement here), and let’s talk about where the work is in 2025 - and how you can position yourself to get hired.

I’m gonna call it like it is!  Sure, you can be a Negative Nelly and tear apart different groups of people, or some of the industries mentioned below.  But this blog post is meant to help you to focus on yourself and see what YOU need to improve to increase your chances of getting hired.

Over 450 Jobs in St. John’s Alone

A quick search shows hundreds of job postings for Newfoundland and Labrador jobs - with more than 600 in the St. John’s area alone.

If you’re looking to switch careers, start fresh, or return home, now’s a great time to take a closer look.

Let’s break down the top 3 industries that are hiring right now in Newfoundland and Labrador.

1. Health Care

No surprise here - health care is booming across the province.

Whether you’re trained as a nurse, a podiatrist, a personal care worker, or an imaging technician, there’s a place for you. The province has earmarked $4.1 billion for health care in 2024–2025.

And don’t forget about the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. It's new, massive, and already creating tons of job opportunities.

From support staff to specialists, if you’ve got the training - or are willing to get it - this is one industry with real staying power.

2. Tourism

Tourism is making a huge comeback, and NL is right at the centre of it.

With new direct flights from parts of Europe and a red-hot cruise season, the demand for hospitality, tour operators, local artisans, and small business owners is on the rise.

In 2024 alone, over 150 cruise ships visited the province. The Port of Corner Brook smashed records, welcoming over 200,000 visitors (including crew).

In our recent economic times, the summer 2025 season is expected to be off the charts! Canadian visitors will be flocking to the province in large numbers. Lots of local tour groups, like Trinity Eco-Tours, are looking for staff for their Whale Watching, ATV Tours, and Kayaking Tours. Do you love to kayak? Reach out to Skipper Bob and tell him we sent you (wink, wink)!

That’s a whole lot of potential customers - and a whole lot of job opportunities for people who love sharing the stories, flavours, and charm of this place we call home.

3. Construction

Construction in NL is growing faster than weeds in a summer garden.

From newcomers to Gen Xers moving home to renovate the family place, the demand for skilled workers is rising fast.

By 2029, construction jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador are expected to reach nearly 16,000 workers.

That means steady work for electricians, carpenters, plumbers, labourers, and project managers.

If you're handy with a hammer - or looking to get into the trades - this is a great time to jump in.

Focus on What You Can Do!

It’s easy to point fingers at the job market, at other people, or at things we can’t control.

But here’s what you can control: your mindset, your skillset, and your next step.

Whether you’re ready to change careers, re-enter the workforce, or relocate to NL for the first (or fifth) time, the opportunities are out there.

So - take a breath, take a look at these industries, and ask yourself:

What can I do to make myself more employable?

Where can I show up and make a difference?
